Discassette has been hand-making traditional music folders for over 60 years. The business originally starts as part of a music shop called Art Nash in Penge, London. It changes hands in the 1960s and, as it grows, shifts from selling music, instruments, and accessories to focusing on records (discs) and tapes (cassettes). The shop eventually changes its name to Discs and Cassettes, which later becomes Discassette. Throughout all of this history, the business continuously makes and supplies high-quality, traditional choir and orchestra folders. Many of our long-term customers still own music folders featuring a label with that old Penge address.
When the owners at the time decide to call it a day in 2002, the Penge shop closes. The music folder division, by then firmly established as Discassette, moves to Ely, Cambridgeshire, where it continues operating under the control of the same family.
In time, retirement beckoned for them as well. The business transfers to new ownership in 2018 and operates for several years from premises in Little Paxton, Cambridgeshire. This era brings significant investment in new equipment, an expanded range of designs, and more optional extras, all while maintaining a steadfast commitment to high-quality traditional music folders.
Our Current Chapter
A brand-new chapter is now underway. Following the previous owners’ recent retirement, Discassette is now under the proud new ownership of the Stevens family. The workshop is fully relocated to our new home in Horsham, West Sussex. As we move forward, we are completely dedicated to continuing the tradition of high-quality, handmade craftsmanship. Using the invaluable knowledge passed down by previous generations, we ensure that our folders remain as exceptional as they have always been.
